Practice makes perfect. This is especially true in basketball. Learning how to shoot a basket, how to dribble, and how to pass a ball is important to playing good basketball. Spending as little as 30 minutes practicing a day can really help develop your game and make you a better player.

Try practicing rebound drills that will help you learn to rebound outside your area in basketball. Great rebounders will try to get the ball no matter its location. Poor rebounders will remain still and watch the ball since they think they can’t reach it. To learn to rebound out of your area, run some drills that cause the ball to go far away from you. One way is to throw it off the backboard and go after it.

Always follow through when shooting. A great way to practice is to hold your follow through until the ball goes in the basket or misses. This will give you some clues on why you missed a shot or where you need to strive for consistency. Watch how other players follow through and follow their lead.

Successful free throwing requires as much mental skill as it does physical skill. Training your body is important, but you also have to be mentally ready for the shot. Stay relaxed and just focus on the goal and you will increase your free throw rate.

If you play serious team basketball, jump rope for thirty minutes before practice sessions. You’ll get used to playing basketball already winded and tired. Doing this can make you very prepared to make shots in late-game situations, as your conditioning is already a notch above anyone else just showing up to practice.

Talk to your teammates and find out what they like about your game. Are you really good at any one thing? It could be your speed, or it could be your back-up abilities. Use two hands when trying to make shots. Have both thumbs on the ball so that they are almost touching. Put the ball over your head but be sure you are able to see what you are aiming for. When you shoot, aim for the backboard or give it a backspin by rolling your hands down while shooting.

To make your weaker hand stronger, play non-competitive basketball games with only your weak hand. The more you practice with it, especially in a real game, the better your skills will become. Pay attention to who has the hot hand. If a player on either team makes more than two or three consecutive baskets they are “on fire” as the saying goes. If you have to make a behind-the-back pass, your power is coming from your arm and fingers.
